Original Comic Art Auction Results
eBay: remember last week’s Hellboy sketchbook cover? the one fighting against Cov.19? It went for $40k. I know it was for charity, I’m happy for this, but I’m also thinking at what you could buy with $40k. Look at HA’s latest Mignola sales, a Hulk cover, a Spider-Man poster, several Hellboy illustrations, covers and vintage pages… all sold for much less.
$4,4 paid for a New Mutants page by Sienkiewicz, $3,6k paid for the Avengers page by Sal Buscema, $2,1k for the Thor page by John Buscema, $2k (Best Offer) for a Conan half splash by JB, the JLA page by John Byrne was finally sold for $1,9k, it took years, listing it every week, finally the market reached the asking price.
This Batman bust by NealAdams went for €2,2k, first time I see an Adams sketch with flat watercolor coloring, not so sure about that.
Bodnar’s Auction: I discovered this auction 20 minutes before it ended (I was able to buy a page too at the last second), many low priced pages. Top price ($575 before BP) was for a lot of 4 Juggernaut pages by hard to find Duncan Rouleau, same price for a complete Weird War story by Duranona with a great splash, $500 for an uncredited Steve Lightlepage, many Batman Animated pages, highest price was $400, $275 for an Aquaman page by Dick Giordano, $225 for a nice Moon Knight page by Sal Velluto. Some Batman pages by Breyfogle, this one with a Batman shadow went for $200, this one with a tiny Batman head for $80.
Mandarake: some high results, $55k for a Doraemon sketch, $47k for a drawing by Hideo Azuma, $5,5k for a Devilman sketch, “only” $4,5k for a published Great Mazinger cover by Go Nagai.
