Heritage Signature Auction: after the $2,4M record for Frank Miller we talked about last week, we do a big jump down to $504k, which is a new record for Jim Lee and his triple Hush cover.
(note that I’m only mentioning record prices, for lack of space).
The X-Force (with Spidey) cover by Todd McFarlane went for $408k, then an interior art record for the DPS from the same issue, $204k.
$216k is a record for Don Heck, a page from the same Iron-Man issue went for $168k in April, $288k for the complete Batman issue by Aparo.
$228k is a new record for Mike Mignola, and a big jump up, with this Batman cover (well… Robin), I think the previous record was for a Hellboy cover sold for $52k lat year. Historical piece, but probably a top Batman cover would do a higher record.
$180k for the early Batman cover by Kane/Robinson, this $132k DKR page almost doubled the previous Frank Miller panel page record, this pinup sold for $108k is probably the interior art Star Wars record.
Jim Lee makes another personal record, this Deathblow cover is the first Wildstorm piece to sell for more than $100k, probably also a first for Image comics, if I’m not forgetting a Walking Dead record price…
$84k for a Sandman #1 page by Sam Kieth, $78k for George Perez, $55k for Marc Silvestri, $50k for Mike Ploog, $48k for the Daredevil page by John Romita Jr., $36k for a Cerebus #1 page, $34k Mark Texeira, $32k for Gabriele Dell’Otto, $31k for H.G. Daniel Maghen Auctions: 1,5 Million Euros paid for this auction, with many pieces doubling/tripling the estimate. A Matteo cover by Gibrat went for an incredible €90k, an illustration for €53k, an interior page for €27k.
Then Bilal, with a 1982 page sold for €70k, the Bruce Hawker cover by Vance went very high at €50k, the Metabarons cover by Jimenez for €33k, Thorgal by Rosinski for €30k, Tardi €24k, Juillard €23k.
The highest price for Pellerin was €22k for this cover, but all the art offered went for high prices, Franquin €19k, the Batem pieces also went high, with €19k paid for this illustration, Giraud €17k, Martin €16k, Manara €13k, €10k for the Indian Summer page, this HP splash for a more affordable €6k.

After yesterday’s sad news, a trading card original art by Tim Sale was sold for $1,5k, a few days before, this Doom commission went for less than $500.
We can already assign the prize for 2022’s biggest waste of money: this Bud Sagendorf sketch (worth at most $300), was instead sold for $9k. Let’s congratulate the buyer for taking advantage of a 10% discount. 💸💸💸
A Groo commission by Aragones was sold for a pretty high $1,2k B.O., the early Batman by Adam Hughes was finally sold for $800, a detailed painted cover prelim by Jim Steranko for $1,3k. The auction for this low priced ($1,6k) Green Goblin prelim by John Romita was quickly closed down…
Heritage Signature Auction: the top+ pieces were sold yesterday, but the auction will go on for the entire weekend, so as usual I will look at all of the results next week. Let’s just say that if you haven’t already read the news, the original art for the Dark Knight returns cover was sold for $2,4 Million, putting Frank Miller art at #5 of the highest prices ever paid.
Some commented that it’s too much, some that it had to go higher and it’s a sign of prices lowering… I was just sure it would go over a million dollars. If you want to tell me what you think just reply to this email!

Many sketches were sold for $900 each, a full figure Jocasta for $900, a nice Daredevil bust for $750, the highest price was $2,2k for a very quick Hulk head sketch cover.
Heritage Weekly Auction: another very high price for a Terry daily by Caniff, $10,8k, $5,7k for a Spidey page by Milgrom, $5,5 for a Fantastic Four pinup.

Mignola: a very nice 1994 Hellboy sketch was sold for a $1,8k Best Offer, very good deal compared to another HB sketch sold for $1,7k.
Neal Adams: you probably know that eBay has been flooded with Neal Adams original art and sketches, many are rushing to buy one at unimaginable prices (until a month ago). The only published piece was this Werewolf poster, sold for $16k, this Batman pinup was actually a good deal at $2k, a very nice Green Lantern tonal piece for $1,8k, a quicker GL bust for $900 (B.O.), a Catwoman for $1,450 (B.O.), a good $780 for this Wonder Woman, a nice tonal Wolvie for $750.
Slabbed profile sketches are the worst deals (they went for $200 not long ago) like $900 paid for a Batman, or $900 for a Green Lantern.
Heritage Weekly Auction: the Sgt. Fury splash by Dick Ayers went for $5,5k, the Superman title page by Curt Swan for $4,2k, the Dark Shadows daily by Ken Bald for $3,1k, a Y page by Pia Guerra for $1,5k.
Remember last year, when modern Thanos pages by Jim Starlin were still “cheap”, selling for $700-900? Not anymore as you can guess, this one went for $1,4k.
Catawiki: the Corto Maltese strip by Hugo Pratt went for €2,5k, a panel for La Linea by Cavandoli for €800, an Axa strip by Romero went for €500, a Martin Mystere cover by Alessandrini for €500, the Dylan Dog page by Stano for €400, the Micheluzzi page for €350.
The Peanuts strip at Weiss Auctions went for $72k.
Not bad, a Blueberry sketch by Giraud, sold at Millon for €350.
