Original Comic Art Tips #285 – Mar. 18 2023
I’m late… yesterday I had work to do. Lots of things to see everywhere, we’re looking at the HA International results and with no time to rest we start looking into the next Signature Auction.
eBay: $8,5k for the Red Sonja illustration by Maroto, this Peanuts illustration seems real, sold for $4,2k.
$4,2k also paid for an Avengers cover recreation by John Buscema, $5,5k for an EC title page by Graham Ingels.
$3,4k (Best Offer) for a 1973 sketchbook illustration by R. Crumb, $2,5k for a detailed Alex Ross cover prelim for Promethea #1, $2,5k for the JLA cover by Sampere, $2,3k for the Norse Gods cover by P. Craig Russell, $2k for an actor portrait by Sienkiewicz.

This page had to make a record: $81k for the first Metabarons page by Gimenez, $72k is a very high jump for Krazy Kat original art, and with a 1938 Sunday, let’s wait for an earlier example to make a new record.
High $65k for Moebius, $57k for the Astro Boy illustration by Tezuka, $57k is probably a record for Valerian original art by Mezieres, $37k record for a Batman DPS by Marini.
Good prices: $20k for a cover quality Two in One splash by Gil Kane, $12k for two Man Without Fear pages by JRJR, $5,5k for a Spidey DPS by Wrightson, $4,5k for an Iron-Man title splash by Starlin, $4,2k for a Daredevil page by Colan.

Kelley Jones – Batman Original Comic Art
Marvel: the John Byrne pages are ending tomorrow, X-Men, X-Men 2, Power Man, Iron-Fist and the Cap America page by Sal Buscema is still pretty low.
Look at this X-Factor page by Steve Epting, a Spidey Sunday page by Saviuk, G.I. Joe by Andrew Wildman, Strikeforce by Brent Anderson, Guardians by Valentino.
A page from Punisher #1 by Jim Lee, the price is not bad and he’s accepting offers.
The asking price is two time its value, but I like this full figure Spidey commission by JRJR, this one is much quicker (and cheaper) but still nice. This Conan page by Buscema has been for sale for a year, but the price spike of the last months took this to market price.
DC: an uncredited (and rare) Kelley Jones Batman page, it’s already at $3k, so it’s not a secret… a Batman page by Sean Murphy, very nice Batman commission by Lee Weeks, a Wonder Woman page by Gene Colan, a Steel page by Bogdanove.
Remember the low Jim Lee results from last week’s ComicLink auction? The new owner of the Batman design (paid $1,6k) is trying a quick flip with a $15k (?) Buy It Now.
Some Flash pages by LaRocque, a Superman page by Saviuk, a Batman page by Bo Hampton, Green Arrow by Phil Hester.
A vintage TMNT page by Jim Lawson.
Top piece of the week is a 1937 Popeye daily by Segar, a Dennis the Menace Sunday by Ron Ferdinand.
Marvel: Sgt. Fury by Ayers is back, Thor and Conan by Buscema, Defenders by Sal, Fantastic Four by Chaykin, Star Wars by Bender, Avengers by Heck, Spidey by Milgrom, Hulk by Pollard.
A full team X-Men pinup and an Infinity War page by Ron Lim, X-Factor by Stroman, look at this illustration by Don Rosa.
A Heroes Reborn cover by Nick Bradshaw, Elsewhen by Byrne, X-Men by Cassaday, a Captain America title page by Epting, X-Force by Allred.
DC: Kamandi by Kirby, an Unknown Soldier story by Ayers, a beautiful Supergirl title page by Infantino, a Batman page by Finch, a Titans splash by Booth, Superman by Byrne, a Y title splash by Pia Guerra, a Sandman Mystery page by guy Davis.
The Fox by Alex Toth, look at this Whoa Nellie! back cover by Jaime, Tarzan by Manning, a Whiz Comics Ibis title page.
A top Terry daily by Caniff, a Brenda Starr illustration by Dale Messick, a Gumps Sunday.
Gabriele Dell’Otto – Tiger Mask Original Comic Art
A 1961 Jacovitti page, a Disney page by Scarpa, a Kriminal page by Magnus, an Arzack sketch by Giorgio Comolo, a Tiger Mask pinup by Gabriele Dell’Otto.

Dale Keown fans will be happy with a never seen big pile of covers and pages, there’s also a Hulk cover by Gary Frank, a Sabretooth cover by Texeira, X-Men by Jae Lee, many TMNT covers and pages by Eastman.
Spawn by Capullo/McFarlane, some Preacher covers, Marvel Knights by Quesada,
Batman by Capullo, a detailed Hellboy illustration by Mignola.
