Yesterday there were many signups, thanks to Jason for the Facebook post.
“Mass” signups only occur when a reader recommends me to their friends/group/forum. When I do self promo it doesn’t work as well and I only get a handful of subs, so I’m mostly dependant on readers to grow!
If you’re a new reader, welcome, please reply and let me know if you enjoyed it!
$3k for a sketch by Frank Frazetta, $2,3k for a weird Marvel cover by Carlos Gomez, $2k for the Charlton page by Ditko, $1,4k for the Phantom pages by Don Newton, $2k for a Superman commission by David Mack.
Cannot show you the Best Offer results this week, cause the website is not working.
$2,6k for a Conan page by Buscema, they continue to grow month after month. $2,3k for Batman original art by David Finch, $2,1k for the Aliens page by Mignola, $1,4k for a Mary Jane commission by Tim Sale. These war time cartoons by Gill Fox usually go for $100, but one with a bit of nudity goes for $1,3k. I think $1,3k is a good price in 2023 for a good Batman page by Steve Rude.
Catawiki: €1,5k for a Tintin sketch by Hergé, €550 and €180 for two Ranxerox sketches by Liberatore, €450 for a signed Alberto Brecciapage, €300 for a Modesty Blaise cover and €200 for a strip by Romero.
A full commission spot by Jim Lee was sold for charity for $26k. More or less the regular price for a commission ordered from Moy.
Mandarake: some more incredible results, compared to other original comic art markets, for shikishi sketches. $117k (yes, $117,000,00) for a 1989 Kiki sketch by Hayao Miyazaki, the all time record is still standing though, with $241k paid for a (more detailed) Nausicaa sketch last year.
$69k for a Goku sketch by Akira Toriyama is probably the new record, at least for what is contained in my archives, last December a full figure Arale sketch went for $60k.
“Only” $14k for a full color Princess Knight page by OsamuTezuka, if I had the money I’d invest in a top Tezuka piece since he’s less valued than modern artists.
$72k for a Doraemon sketch by Fujiko Fujio, probably another record, I saved a similar sketch sold for $54k.
A 1982 Lum sketch by Akemi Takada, went for $9k and a with these prices a $3,5k Shinobu sketch by Rumiko Takahashi seems cheap. For fans of contemporary artists a very detailed Prince of Tennis sketch was sold for $2,5k and a Harley Quinn commission by Peach Momoko went for $200, soon on the flippers’ market 🐬.
This Week on eBay
Mark Texeira – Ghost Rider Original Comic Art
Marvel: Last week’s John Byrne pages are ending tonight, Champions one and two, Iron-Fist one, two, three, Chillers, this week there’s a Spidey page without Spidey but featuring Sandman.
Nice pieces, considering this is the Focused Auction… but more than half of the lots are cheap sketches.
Many pages by Mark Bagley, most are from the fast growing Ultimate Spidey title, here’s a Doc Ock DPS. Some Byrne pages, here’s electric Superman, some mutant pages by Gene Ha, the usual big batch of animation drawings by Jack Kirby, look at the Turbo Teens, many Spidey pages by Humberto Ramos, I like this one.
Then we have a Darkseid pinup by Bermejo, nice Wonder Woman pages by Bob Brown, Batman pages by Cowan and Von Eeden, a Batman cover by Javier Fernandez, a Flash cover by Rafa Sandoval, Zatanna by Dillin, a DC Universe DPS by Scott McDaniel.
Hey I noticed today for the first time that CL is the most DC-friendly auction house, on HA and eBay I have a difficult time every week to find good DC art.
