Look at the Spider-Man results! Original Comic Art Tips #270
Welcome to #270 of original Comic Art Tips! Last week the email was clipped in half, because it was judged too long by email softwares (just click the “View online” link above to read it all when it happens). Many readers weren’t able to see the link to the Chris Samnee original art post on the website.
eBay: the faded Wrightson illustration went for $4,9k, $3,5k for a Capullo/McFarlane Spawn page, $2,6k for the Hulk page by Sal Buscema, $2,5k for a Jango Fett page by Tom Fowler, $2,2k for a Young Avengers page by Jim Cheung, $2,2k a vintage Moon Knight sketch by Sienkiewicz.
$2,7k and $2,2k for the Infinity Inc. pages by McFarlane, Spidey splashes by Marcelo Ferreira for $1,8k and $1,4k.
It seems it’s time for another Marvel alternate universe/storyline getting hot, after being considered without value for years.. first it was Spider-Man 2099, then the Clone Saga, lately it was the turn of the Age of Apocalypse and even Amalgam… the last time Ultimate Spider-Man pages by Mark Bagley were for sale they went for $200, now last week’s batch went for surprising prices (yes they featured first appearances of many Ultimate versions of villains, so regular pages will still go for much less).
A page with Kingpin was the priciest, at $3,3k, Goblin 3,2k, Goblin $2,8k, an early page for $2,8k, an origin page for $2,6k, Elektro $1,6k, Goblin $1,5k, then this one for $1,6k.
Heritage Weekly Auction: quick growth for Richard Corben original art in the last two years, this page was sold for $30k. $10k for a Superman page by Frank Quitely, $8k for the Black Spidey page by Springer, $6,6k for Sandman art by McManus, $3k for the page by Allred, $3,3k for the Weapon X page by Adam Kubert.
Sold by Gary Frank on eBay at the beginning of the year, the two Batman pages gained almost $1k just for being offered again. A page from the Boys by Russ Braun went for $1,7k.
Catawiki: an original Tintin album with a vintage Hergé sketch was sold for €16k, the page by Frederick Peeters for €3,2k, the Ric Hochet cover by Tibet for €1,8k, the Chick Bill page for €1,3k, the Gaston sketch by Franquin for €800, the album with 30 sketches (two by Moebius) for only €1,2k.
The pinup by Enrico Marini went pretty high at €600, the Torpedo by Bernet for €700, the 100 Bullets page by Risso for €400, the Junglemen page by Pratt for €1k, the Disney cover by Cavazzano for €600, the Satanik cover by Corteggi for €700 and the Dylan Dog cover by Roi for €650.
