A very lucky collector bought a Thor page by John Buscema for only $1,5k, a Spider-Man blank cover sketch by John Romita for $1,5k (B.O.), a Spawn sketch by Todd McFarlane for $1,5k (B.O.), a Fear Itself page by Immonen for $1,3k, a Fantastic Four commission by Ivan Reis for $1,2k, a Star Wars page for $800 (B.O.).
Heritage Weekly Auction: Somebody got a very good deal on this Spider-Man page by Erik Larsen, sold for less than $12k, $10k for an X-Men page by Frank Quitely, $10k for this Dragon Lady appearance in a Terry daily by Caniff, $6,6k for a Conan page by John Buscema, Conan art is growing quickly lately, $6k for a Shang-Chi page by Gulacy, $6k for an X-Men page by Andrew Wildman, $4k for Hulk by Dale Keown, really good deal on this Wonder Woman commission by Adam Hughes, $800, $500 for this Wonder Woman commission by Jason Pearson.
It’s interesting to see how high anything that was touched by Bill Watterson will sell for, this signed book went for $6k.
Catawiki: €2,2k for the Tex strip by Magnus, €350 for the Barney bust by Hermann, €250 for the Frezzato sketch, €170 for the Manara sketch.
Heritage Signature Auction: Incredible jump for Dave Cockrum with an X-Men cover sold for $432k, the last record was made exactly a year before at $360k. The Wolverine page sold for $152k comes in 6th place overall in HA’s archives but is the highest price paid for Marvel art by Frank Miller. Highest price doubled for Bob Layton, $132k, mostly due to the Secret Wars title.
For the first time a Werner Roth X-Men cover was offered by HA, the result had to be a record at $132k. Marvel art record for George Perez too, at $120k for a Fantastic Four cover.
Don Perlin reaches $102k for the first time, but with a very iconic Transformers cover, $78k for an early TMNT cover by Eastman, $53k is a panel page record for Jim Starlin. $50k for a complete Wolverine issue by John Buscema, in a couple years this will look like a great deal. $38k for a Golden Age Green Arrow page by Papp, this Spidey/Venom splash by Mark Bagley was a record price less than a year ago for $41k, now it was sold for $32k, like it always happens when you send back to the auction house the same piece after a few months. $26k for a Batman cover by Sean Murphy.
$23k for a Daredevil page by Joe Orlando, $20k for a Strangers in Paradise cover.
Sold on eBay in October for $14,3k, this Beast cover by Sienkiewicz was sold now for $16k, take away the fees and you get no gain. At the same time, this Felix specialty drawing by Messmer (sold on eBay in September for $1k) was sold for $4k. Look: a 1944 Dick Tracy strip went for $15k, the previous record was $7k for another Flattop daily sold in 2018.
Weiss Auctions: a 1982 Peanuts Sunday was the highest result at $38k. I was surprised to see this Rima cover, sold for $11k, as the highest Joe Kubert result. The highest price for a Sgt. Rock cover was $7,7k, compared to prices for classic Marvel covers these are still very good deals. A nice Rip Kirby daily by Raymond went pretty low at $700, $500 for a 1952 Pogo daily.
