The Summer Focused Auction from ComicLink took place last week, it featured a great selection of mostly superhero Original Comic Art. I already analyzed the best/highest results on #101 of the Comic Art Tips newsletter (you can read it here). In this post I want to focus on the best deals: great comic art for a “small” sum. I selected 10 pieces from A to Z, but there were even more.

ComicLink Summer 2019 Comic Art Auction – Best Deals
Charlie Adlard – The Walking Dead “Here’s Negan” splash page. $900
Original art by Charlie Adlard from The Walking Dead isn’t rare to find (there are a couple pages every week on eBay for example) and it’s also very affordable… that is if you want pages with LIVE people only. Pages with people fighting Zombies are very rare and often sell for premium prices. Here we have a cover quality splash with Negan fighting a big group of walkers, the end price is pretty cheap, probably because this page was from a spinoff series and not published in the regular TWD series.
Mark Bagley – Avengers Splash page original Comic Art – $350
That said this is a nice Avengers splash, with all the classic team members drawn by Bagley, not bad for $350!
Simone Bianchi – Marvel Masterpieces, Venom original art – $1,600
Trading Card Paintings by Bianchi for the 2018 Masterpieces Upper Deck Series, usually sell from $2,000 to $7,000 (based on character, action/static pose and measures). This one is really small (and much smaller than the many originals I saw) I think that’s why the price remained so low, but still it’s a wonderful piece.
John Buscema – Thor #241 Original Comic Art – $900
Not much going on in this page, just Thor and Jane Foster in five panels, beautifully drawn by Buscema and Sinnott. I’d be happy to pay this sum for a similar page.
Olivier Coipel – Thor #5 Original Comic Art – $376
Coipel’s Original Art is always in high demand, especially on Thor. If you don’t care about the tiny figures this is a battle page with Thor vs. the Destroyer.
Jack Kirby – Amazing Adventures Original Comic Art – $1,200
Many pre-hero Marvel pages in this ComicLink auction, the splash pages went for $15k-16k, some interior pages were sold for less than $2,000. There’s not much going on in this page, but I still find it fascinating. It’s also signed, and was drawn in 1961, a few months before Fantastic Four #1 hit the stands.
Jim Lee – All Star Batman #3 Original Comic Art – $800
Jim Lee published original art for less than $1,000 is almost impossible to find in 2019. I know most fans want a pinup style page from Jim Lee, possibly with Batman, but this Black Canary battle page is really well designed, with a layout that reminds me of some of Frank Miller’s Daredevil pages.
Ed McGuinness – Hulk #30 Original Comic Art – $255
Prices for McGuinness original art vary a lot. Covers, splashes and pinups sell for pretty high prices, panel pages are often affordable. Or very affordable, like this nice Red Hulk page.
Chuck Patton – Justice League #224 original Comic Art – $245
Patton’s original Justice League art doesn’t come very often for sale, and prices are always very affordable. This is a nice and clean battle page with many team members, a steal at this price.
John Romita Jr. – Spider-Man #74 Splash Original Art – $1,800
Very nice Romita Jr. splash, better yet with Al Williamson inks. I don’t know why this one stayed below $2k, it will be a great display piece for the wall of the new owner.
