ComicLink May 2020 Comic Art Auction – Best Deals

Published on 11 Maggio 2020 by Comicart.tips On Original Comic Art Articles and reports

The latest ComicLink Original Comic Art Auction ended a few days ago, I analyzed the most interesting and highest results in the latest Comic Art Tips newsletter (you can read it here), here I’ll show you 10 nice pieces sold for a good price.

Comiclink is often the best place to find affordable original comic art, with many pieces selling for $100-500, and often good deals on big name artists.

neal-adams-original-comic-art

Neal Adams – Superman and Batman pinup, sold for $601

Neal Adams commissions aren’t cheap if you go to the source, I think that for $600 you could buy no more than a Batman bust, going to the secondary market for commissions is often a way to spend a little (or a lot) less.

garcia-lopez-original-comic-art

Jose Luis Garcia Lopez – Twilight Original Art, sold for $394

A page from Twilight, a nice miniseries from the 90’s. There are no superheroes to drive the price up in this page, but as with every page drawn by Garcia Lopez the art quality is high.

adam-hughes-original-art

Adam Hughes – The Bride original art, sold for $295

This piece has been sold and bought some times in the last years, it doesn’t depict the classic sexy lady most fans of AH want from him, but if you like Tarantino characters you get a not-too-detailed but finished sketch for less than $300, usually to buy Adam Hughes original art you need to (at least) add a zero to the sum.

stuart-immonen-original-art

Stuart Immonen – Final Night page, sold for $329

Immonen became a superstar working for Marvel Comics, but he already had a good career at DC, working in a more traditional and realistic style. In this comic book page you get many DC characters and a splash panel for a little more than $300.

scott-kolins-original-art

Scott Kolins – Spider-Man Original Art, sold for $302

Kolins is another artist with a long career, who already produced great art before becoming a fan-favorite. Here you get Spidey Vs. Hobgoblin in one of the thousand minis from the early ’90s, a great looking page for a low sum.

ron-lim-original-art

Ron Lim – Avengers Original Comic Art, sold for $478

It’s not hard to find affordable pages drawn by Ron Lim, this is an early page with a nice battle between Hawkeye and The Abomination. Finding 32 years old Marvel pages with action, drawn by a well known artist, for this price is always a good thing.

batman-original-art

Tom Mandrake – Batman original Comic Art, sold for $469

A great artist with a long and varied career, but the price for his original art is still very low. A dynamic layout with a full figure shot of Batman and a battle scene.

thor-original-comic-art

Keith Pollard – Thor Original Comic Art, sold for $513

Pollard produced some great art and comics and had long runs on Marvel’s top titles. Similar to other pages in this list this one has a battle scene versus a well known villain, some great panels and is almost 40 years old.

alex-saviuk-original-art

Alex Saviuk – Spider-Man Original Comic Art, sold for $550

I’ve noticed a growth in Web of Spider-Man original art by Saviuk, lately. Good pages often go for $1,000-1,300, but still sometimes they get lost between hundreds of listings and sell for much less. This one will probably grow in value in the next few years, and is also a very good page, with classic layout and a ’90s vibe.

leinil-yu-original-comic-art

Leinil Yu – Avengers original art, sold for $303

This is the kind of page you have to look for if you want a cheap (but still nice) example of an artist’s original art. 2/3 of the page is a battle between futuristic planes, that means low value for original art collectors, but you get a final panel with a good group shot of the Avengers, much better in my opinion than buying a Captain America head sketch for the same price.

These were the best deals, I’ve analyzed the highest/most interesting prices in this week’s edition of the comic art tips newsletter. If you enjoy it you can subscribe for free by going to the home page.
